Q:
Bash scripting: Reading folder for regular expression
I am trying to read a folder with the following regular expression
[0-9]{5}-[0-9]{2}-[0-9]{2}
So that I can write a shell script that can loop over the files within the folder.
I have tried the following
for i in $(find. -regex ".*/[0-9]{5}-[0-9]{2}-[0-9]{2}.*")
do
echo $i
done
I get the error
find: invalid argument ‘find.
What is going on?
A:
You should also read the output of find:
find. -regex ".*/[0-9]{5}-[0-9]{2}-[0-9]{2}.*" | while read i
do
echo $i
done
A:
You need to pipe the output of find to a loop:
find. -regex ".*/[0-9]{5}-[0-9]{2}-[0-9]{2}.*" | while read i; do
echo $i
done
Otherwise, find doesn't find any output and that's the error you see.
